The i-Hariyali app, under the Tandarust Punjab mission, launched by the state government to ensure the clean and green environment in the state, has received a massive response from residents. In the past one month, around 71,000 plants from government nurseries in the district have been ordered by people through the app.
This mobile app has got a humongous response from the residents as it is one of the most trending apps. With more than 2,70,000 downloads from the Google Play Store and 2,60,000 orders, around 10 lakh plants have already been collected by the users.
The man behind the app is Vishal Chauhan, who belongs to Jalandhar and is posted as the district forest officer, Hoshiarpur.
This app was launched as a component of Ghar Ghar Hariyali scheme on June 5 this year which is a part of Mission Tandurust Punjab of the state government. This Android-based mobile application facilitates residents to select and collect plants of their choice, free of cost from the nearest nursery.

Residents are able to select and collect plants of their choice, free-of-cost from the nearest nursery.
As per details, since the launch of the app by the Forest Department in the past month, people have ordered couple of lakh plants by using the technique of the available over 35 varieties of plants from government nurseries. Of them, neem, having immense medicinal properties, has taken the lead as a maximum number of 16, 837 saplings have been ordered.
Other trees in huge demand are sagwan/teak (6925), shisham (2178), Burma neem/drek (2554), akash neem (5800), sukhchain (2071), miscellaneous (14500), jamun (6212), chandini (8700), Arjun (994) and others.
The app was available on the Google Play Store in Android phones. It enables a user to choose a plant ranging from timber, ornamental, medicinal, fruits or ornamental shrubs. Users were shown nurseries in the vicinity of their location from where they could search nurseries according to saplings required by them as per convenience.
Any user who books a sapling through the app receives an SMS on mobile which is used to collect that sapling from the nursery in a fixed time.
